An Act To Provide Additional Assistance for the Elderly and Persons with Disabilities Receiving Food Supplement Program Benefits

Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:

Sec. 1. 22 MRSA §3104, sub-§15  is enacted to read:

15 Elderly or disabled recipient minimum benefit.   If a household includes a member who is an elderly or disabled member and receives a federally funded benefit in an amount less than $30 per month under the statewide food supplement program administered pursuant to this section, the State shall provide a supplement to increase the total benefit to $30 per month. For the purposes of this subsection, "elderly or disabled member" has the same meaning as in the federal Food and Nutrition Act of 2008, 7 United States Code, Section 2012(j).

This bill requires the State to ensure that a household that includes a member who is elderly or disabled and that receives a federally funded benefit under the statewide food supplement program receives a minimum benefit of $30 per month by providing a supplemental benefit if necessary.
