Fiscal Detail and Notes
The bill requires the Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife (IF&W) to annually issue to members of the Houlton Band of Maliseet Indians, the Aroostook Band of Micmacs and one hundred percent disabled veterans residing in Aroostook County, 33 moose permits and 33 bear permits to each group without a fee. This bill also allows members of the Houlton Band of Maliseet Indians and the Aroostook Band of Micmacs to hunt for, take and possess certain wild animals and birds in Aroostook County for sustenance use only. The bill will reduce General Fund revenue collected through IF&W by an estimated $9,045 and reduce Other Special Revenue Funds revenue to the Moose Research and Management Fund within IF&W by an estimated $900 in fiscal year 2015-16 and in every subsequent fiscal year from the issuance of these permits.
