The amendment
allows landfills that sent applications received by the Department of
Environmental Protection (DEP) on or before September 1, 1989 to become
eligible to have DEP pay 75% of closure costs incurred between July 1, 1994
and before December 31, 2025. DEP estimates that at least one additional
landfill would become eligible. DEP will expend an estimated $365,600 for
these closure costs. This amendment includes Other Special Revenue Funds
allocations of $91,400 in each of fiscal years 2015-16 and 2016-17 for
landfill closure costs. All costs to the DEP will be funded from the Maine
Solid Waste Management Fund within DEP. The fund has sufficient resources to
absorb these costs. |
