The Department of
Corrections will incur additional costs as a result of the increase in the
length of sentence. The average cost
of a Class A crime is $203,141 per sentence based on an average length of
stay of 1,886 days. The average cost
of a Class B crime is $62,687 per sentence based on an average length of stay
of 582 days. The Maine Commission on
Indigent Legal Services will also experience an increase in costs, estimated
to be $1,502 per case. The number of
occurrences in any given fiscal year is not projected at this time. |
