Amend the bill by striking out all of section 2 and inserting the following:

‘Sec. 2. 20-A MRSA §11614, sub-§9 is enacted to read:

9. Grants for students with no expected family contribution. Beginning in the 2016-2017 academic year, if funds are available, grants awarded under this chapter for eligible students with no expected family contribution may not be less than $2,500 for students attending their first year, $3,500 for students attending their 2nd year, $4,500 for students attending their 3rd year and $5,500 for students attending their 4th year.’

SUMMARY

This amendment, which is the majority report of the committee, requires that the Maine State Grants Program tiered awards proposed in the bill, if funds are available, must be made available to eligible students with no expected family contribution who attend private postsecondary education institutions, as well as those who attend public postsecondary education institutions, in the State.
