An Act To Require That Public Postsecondary Educational Institutions in the State Give Preference to Maine Producers When Entering into Contracts Related to Heating Fuel
Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:
Sec. 1. 5 MRSA §1824-B is enacted to read:
§ 1824-B. Public postsecondary educational institution heating fuel purchases
1. Definitions. As used in this section, unless the context otherwise indicates, the following terms have the following meanings.
A. "Heating fuel" means a fuel used for the purpose of heating a residence or business.
B. "Public postsecondary educational institution" means the University of Maine System, the Maine Maritime Academy and the Maine Community College System.
2. Preference. Notwithstanding any other provision of law, when entering into a contract to purchase heating fuel, a public postsecondary educational institution shall give preference to companies producing in the State the type of heating fuel to be purchased under the contract.
