Amend the amendment in Part BBBB in section 1 in §12730 in subsection 1 in the 3rd and 4th lines (page 656, lines 8 and 9 in amendment) by striking out the following: " at postsecondary institutions of higher education" and inserting the following: ' at community colleges'

Amend the amendment in Part BBBB in section 1 in §12730 in subsection 1 in the 4th and 5th lines (page 656, lines 9 and 10 in amendment) by striking out the following: " and postsecondary institutions of higher education" and inserting the following: ' and community colleges'

Amend the amendment in Part BBBB in section 1 in §12730 in subsection 2 by striking out all of the first paragraph (page 656, lines 11 to 17 in amendment) and inserting the following:

‘ 2. Job training programs; criteria. The job training programs in the program must provide training to prepare workers for jobs in high-demand fields. The centers shall work with private businesses and trade associations to determine the demand for jobs and the skills needed for those jobs in those industries and with community colleges to determine the ability of those institutions to provide the appropriate education and training, including teaching faculty and any necessary infrastructure. A qualified job training program must meet the following criteria:’

Amend the amendment in Part BBBB in section 1 in §12730 in subsection 4 in the 3rd line (page 657, line 8 in amendment) by striking out the following: " a business" and inserting the following: ' awardees'

Amend the amendment in Part BBBB in section 1 in §12730 in subsection 4 in paragraph A in the first line (page 657, line 10 in amendment) by inserting after the following: " business" the following: ' or industry partnership'

Amend the amendment in Part BBBB in section 1 in §12730 in subsection 4 in paragraph C in the first line (page 657, line 12 in amendment) by inserting after the following: " business" the following: ' or industry partnership'

Amend the amendment in Part BBBB in section 1 in §12730 in subsection 4 in paragraph D in the first line (page 657, line 14 in amendment) by inserting after the following: " business" the following: ' or industry partnership'

Amend the amendment in Part BBBB in section 1 in §12730 in subsection 4 in paragraph E in the first line (page 657, line 16 in amendment) by inserting after the following: " business" and inserting the following: ' or industry partnership'

SUMMARY

This amendment makes the following clarifications to the Put ME to Work Program that is established in Committee Amendment "A":

1. It specifies that the job training programs must be established at the community colleges;

2. It specifies that the centers may work with trade associations as well as private businesses and that costs for the job training programs may be provided by an industry partnership; and

3. It clarifies that, in selecting awardees for the program, the Board of Trustees of the Maine Community College System shall consider various factors as they relate to the business or industry partnership.
