An Act To Prevent Passage of Alewives through the Grand Falls Dam on the St. Croix River

Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:

Sec. 1. 12 MRSA §6134, first ¶,  as enacted by PL 2013, c. 47, §1, is amended to read:

By May 1, 2013 May 1, 2016, the commissioner and the Commissioner of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife shall ensure that the fishways fishway on the Woodland Dam and the Grand Falls Dam located on the St. Croix River are is configured or operated in a manner that allows the unconstrained prevents passage of river herring.

summary

This bill requires the fishway on the Grand Falls Dam located on the St. Croix River to be configured or operated to prevent passage of river herring into the lakes that form the headwaters of the river, including, but not limited to, Grand Falls Flowage, Big Lake, West Grand Lake and Spednic Lake.
