An Act To Ensure That Funding to the University of Maine System Is Used Efficiently
Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:
Sec. 1. 20-A MRSA §10910 is enacted to read:
§ 10910. Funds for classroom instruction
The university shall expend the following percentages of its total expenditures in each fiscal year on classroom instruction:
1. Fiscal year 2015-16. Not less than 30% in fiscal year 2015-16;
2. Fiscal year 2016-17. Not less than 35% in fiscal year 2016-17; and
3. Fiscal year 2017-18. Not less than 40% in fiscal year 2017-18 and in each fiscal year thereafter.
For purposes of this section, "classroom instruction" means faculty salaries, classroom technology and supplies directly related to student learning in the classroom.
SUMMARY
This bill requires that the University of Maine System allocate a certain percentage of its annual funding to faculty salaries, classroom technology and supplies directly related to student learning in the classroom.
