An Act To Clarify the Authority of Individualized Education Plans in Relation to Proficiency-based Diplomas
Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:
Sec. 1. 20-A MRSA §4722-A, sub-§3, ¶A, as enacted by PL 2011, c. 669, §7, is amended to read:
A. A child with a disability, as defined in section 7001, subsection 1-B, who achieves proficiency as required in subsection 1, as specified by the goals and objectives of the child's individualized education plan, may be awarded a high school diploma. A child with a disability may demonstrate proficiency through the use of evidence and alternative measures as specified by the goals and objectives of the child's individualized education plan.
SUMMARY
This bill allows a child with a disability who demonstrates proficiency through the use of evidence and alternative measures specified in the child's individualized education plan to be awarded a high school diploma.
