An Act To Ensure Humane Conditions for Egg-laying Poultry
Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:
Sec. 1. 7 MRSA §4015, sub-§3, ¶C is enacted to read:
C. Enclosures for egg-laying poultry must allow the poultry to lie down, stand up, fully extend their wings and legs and turn around freely, except that this requirement does not apply to poultry enclosures used to:
(1) Transport the poultry;
(2) Show the poultry at a licensed agricultural fair or as part of 4-H activities;
(3) Hold the poultry prior to slaughter; or
(4) Confine the poultry for veterinary or research purposes.

This bill provides for humane space standards for all egg-laying poultry that allow them to move freely, with exceptions for specific circumstances.
