Amend the amendment by striking out the substitute title and replacing it with the following:

‘An Act To Provide That Children under 10 Years of Age May Accompany a Parent while the Parent Is Hunting’

Amend the amendment by striking out everything after the substitute title and before the summary and inserting the following:

Amend the bill by striking out everything after the enacting clause and before the summary and inserting the following:

Sec. 1. 12 MRSA §10760  is enacted to read:

§ 10760 Authorization for children under 10 years of age to accompany parents or guardians while hunting

Nothing in this Title may be construed to prohibit a child under 10 years of age from accompanying that child's parent or guardian while that parent or guardian is hunting as long as the child's parent or guardian possesses a valid Maine hunting license or permit. A child who accompanies a parent or guardian pursuant to this section may not carry hunting equipment except that a child who accompanies a parent or guardian pursuant to this section may, while under the direct supervision of the child's parent or guardian, use hunting equipment to dispatch an animal or bird.

SUMMARY

This amendment strikes the substance of Committee Amendment "A" and the bill and instead specifies that a child under 10 years of age may accompany that child's parent or guardian while that parent or guardian is hunting as long as the child's parent or guardian possesses a valid Maine hunting license or permit. Under this amendment, a child under 10 years of age who accompanies a parent or guardian may not carry hunting equipment except that the child may, while under the direct supervision of the child's parent or guardian, use hunting equipment to dispatch an animal or bird.
