This bill conforms
Maine law to a recent United States Supreme Court decision addressing the
confidentiality of prescription drug information related to prescribers. The bill would eliminate an annual fee of
$1,500 assessed on manufacturers of prescription drugs pursuant to 22 MRSA
§1711-E(4)(C) that is collected by the Department of Health and Human
Services with 80% allocated to the Maine Health Data Organization
(MHDO). Subsequent to the Supreme
Court decision in June of 2011, the Department stopped collecting the
fee. The fee was used to fund the
administrative and legal costs of the program. |
