Increasing the present classification of a Class B offense to a Class A offense is expected to increase future correctional costs. The current maximum penalty for a conviction is 10 years. This bill will increase the maximum to 30 years resulting in potential future costs. The current average annual cost of housing one prisioner for a Class A crime in a state correctional facility is $43,362. |
