‘Resolve, To Require the Department of Labor To Streamline the Process for a Minor To Obtain a Work Permit’

Amend the bill by striking out everything after the title and before the summary and inserting the following:

Sec. 1. Department of Labor to streamline the process for minors to obtain a work permit. Resolved: That the Director of the Bureau of Labor Standards within the Department of Labor shall gather information from students, superintendents and employers to determine methods by which the process for minors to obtain work permits can be simplified without compromising the education of minors and while continuing to protect minors from working in unsafe or unhealthy conditions; and be it further

Sec. 2. Reporting date established. Resolved: That the Director of the Bureau of Labor Standards within the Department of Labor shall report the director's findings under section 1, including a proposed streamlining model, to the joint standing committee of the Legislature having jurisdiction over labor matters by January 14, 2013. The joint standing committee is authorized to introduce a bill related to the report to the First Regular Session of the 126th Legislature.’

This amendment replaces the bill with a resolve and is the minority report of the committee. It requires the Director of the Bureau of Labor Standards within the Department of Labor to gather information from students, superintendents and employers in order to determine ways to simplify the process for minors to obtain work permits. The director is required to report to the joint standing committee of the Legislature having jurisdiction over labor matters by January 14, 2013. The joint standing committee is authorized to introduce a bill related to the report to the First Regular Session of the 126th Legislature.
