Amend the resolve by inserting before section 1 the following:
‘Emergency preamble. Whereas, acts and resolves of the Legislature do not become effective until 90 days after adjournment unless enacted as emergencies; and
Whereas, it is important to honor Amy, Coty and Monica Lake and to keep the memory of this young family alive through the naming of 2 bridges in the Town of Harmony; and
Whereas, the Legislature stands in strong opposition to domestic violence and supports all efforts to put an end to domestic violence; and
Whereas, the naming of the 2 bridges also serves as a tribute to all victims of domestic violence; and
Whereas, it is important to ensure that signs on the named bridges be in place immediately to raise awareness regarding domestic violence and its impact on individuals, communities and the State of Maine; and
Whereas, in the judgment of the Legislature, these facts create an emergency within the meaning of the Constitution of Maine and require the following legislation as immediately necessary for the preservation of the public peace, health and safety; now, therefore, be it’
Amend the resolve in section 1 in the 2nd line (page 1, line 2 in L.D.) by striking out the following: "the bridge" and inserting the following: 'Bridge 5846'
Amend the resolve in section 1 in the 3rd and 4th lines (page 1, lines 3 and 4 in L.D.) by striking out the following: "Monica and Coty Lake" and inserting the following: 'Coty and Monica'
Amend the resolve in section 2 in the 2nd line (page 1, line 6 in L.D.) by striking out the following: "the bridge" and inserting the following: 'Bridge 5126'
Amend the resolve by adding before the summary the following:
‘Emergency clause. In view of the emergency cited in the preamble, this legislation takes effect when approved.’
SUMMARY
This amendment:
1. Adds an emergency preamble and emergency clause to the resolve;
2. Clarifies that the bridge on State Route 150 that crosses Higgins Stream in the Town of Harmony is to be designated as the Amy, Coty and Monica Bridge; and
3. Includes the Department of Transportation number designations of the bridges to be renamed.
