Amend the amendment in the emergency preamble by inserting before the last Whereas paragraph the following:
Whereas, ‘it is important to provide immediate recognition of the sacrifices of all military service members; and’
Amend the amendment on page 3 by inserting after the 7th indented paragraph the following:
Amend the bill by inserting after section 18 the following:
‘Sec. 19. 29-A MRSA §1412 is enacted to read:
§ 1412. Military service designation for active military personnel and veterans
The Secretary of State shall, at the request of an eligible applicant, issue a driver's license or nondriver identification card to that applicant with a military service designation that identifies the applicant as a person actively serving in the United States Armed Forces or as a veteran of the United States Armed Forces.
Amend the amendment by inserting before section 22 the following:
‘Sec. 21. PL 2011, c. 134 is repealed.’
Amend the amendment in the emergency clause in the last line (page 4, line 5 in amendment) by striking out the following: "takes" and inserting the following: 'and those sections of this Act that enact the Maine Revised Statutes, Title 29-A, section 1412 and repeal Public Law 2011, chapter 134 take'
Amend the amendment by relettering or renumbering any nonconsecutive Part letter or section number to read consecutively.
SUMMARY
This amendment provides for a military service designation on driver's licenses and nondriver identification cards for all service members, not just those in an enlisted grade, and honorably discharged veterans and makes that provision effective when this legislation is approved.
