An Act To Amend the School Transportation Formula To Recognize One-way Bus Trips
Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:
Sec. 1. 20-A MRSA §15672, sub-§22-A, ¶B, as enacted by PL 2005, c. 519, Pt. AAAA, §4, is amended to read:
B. The average of the pupil density model under paragraph A and an odometer miles model based on the gross cost per pupil conveyed for each school administrative unit that is predicted by the odometer miles traveled per pupil conveyed by the school administrative unit. For purposes of this paragraph, the odometer miles model must take into account all miles traveled when covering the same road in both directions when necessitated by geographical or other constraints.
summary
This bill amends the formula for calculating school transportation costs to require the inclusion of all mileage accumulated for so-called "one-way trips," in which a school bus is required to travel the same road in both directions due to geographical constraints to drop off or pick up a student.
