An Act To Improve Vehicle Safety for First Responders
Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:
Sec. 1. 29-A MRSA §2054, sub-§2, ¶B, as amended by PL 1995, c. 247, §4, is further amended to read:
B. Only an emergency medical service vehicle, a fire department vehicle and a police vehicle may be equipped with a device that provides for alternate flashing of the vehicle's brake or rear directional lights and back-up lights or strobe lights behind the rear brake lenses. A personal vehicle belonging to emergency medical personnel, firefighters and police officers responding to an emergency may use a device that provides for alternate flashing of the vehicle's brake or rear directional lights and back-up lights or strobe lights behind the rear brake lenses.

This bill allows emergency medical service vehicles, fire department vehicles and personal vehicles of emergency medical personnel, firefighters and police officers to be equipped with a device that provides for alternate flashing of the vehicle's brake or rear directional lights and back-up lights or strobe lights behind the rear brake lenses when responding to an emergency.
