An Act To Make a Violation of the Laws Governing Seat Belts a Secondary Offense
Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:
Sec. 1. 29-A MRSA §2081, sub-§4, ¶E, as repealed by PL 2007, c. 60, §2, is reenacted to read:
E. Subsection 3-A may be enforced only if a law enforcement officer has detained the operator of a motor vehicle for a suspected violation of another law.

This bill restores a prior law that prohibited the enforcement of the seat belt law unless the driver was stopped for a suspected violation of a different law.
