An Act To Require an Insurance Company To Notify a Landlord When a Tenant Changes or Cancels a Residential Property Insurance Contract
Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:
Sec. 1. 24-A MRSA §3008 is enacted to read:
§ 3008. Notification to landlord of changes in tenant's insurance
This section governs notification to a landlord of a change in a residential property insurance contract for residential property issued to a tenant.
1. Listing of landlord on property contract. If a tenant purchases a property insurance contract for residential property and requests that the landlord be listed as an additional named insured, certificate holder or interested party, the insurer shall comply with that request, list the landlord on the summary page of the contract and, within 10 business days, send the landlord a copy of the summary page of the contract.
2. Notification of landlord. Notwithstanding any law regarding privacy of insurance information to the contrary, an insurer shall notify a landlord that is listed on a residential property insurance contract pursuant to subsection 1 within 10 business days of any change to or cancellation of that contract.
