An Act To Improve the Health of Maine Students

Sec. 1. 20-A MRSA §4710-A  is enacted to read:

§ 4710-A.  Daily physical activity

Beginning in the 2012-2013 school year, each school administrative unit shall provide at least 20 minutes of daily physical activity for all students in grades 1 to 8. For purposes of this section, "physical activity" means unstructured recess, leisure or recreational time, sports, hobbies or a structured exercise program. A school administrative unit that does not comply with the requirements of this section is subject to a 20% reduction of the unit's state funding under chapter 606-B.
