An Act To Allow the Town of Dayton To Opt Out of Its Regional School Unit Agreement

Sec. 1. Allow Town of Dayton to withdraw from Regional School Unit No. 23. Notwithstanding the Maine Revised Statutes, Title 20-A, section 1466, subsection 1 and Title 20-A, section 15696, the Town of Dayton may withdraw from Regional School Unit No. 23 upon a favorable vote to withdraw by the residents of the Town of Dayton. If the vote required under this section is favorable to withdraw, notwithstanding the provisions of Title 20-A, section 1461-B, subsections 1 to 3, the school department in the Town of Dayton may form an alternative organizational structure under Title 20-A, section 1461-B.

SUMMARY

This bill allows the Town of Dayton to withdraw from Regional School Unit No. 23 without penalty upon a favorable vote of the residents of the Town of Dayton. If the vote required by this bill is favorable to withdraw, this bill allows the school department in the Town of Dayton to form an alternative organizational structure.
