An Act To Establish Continuing Education Requirements for Manufactured Housing Installers

Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:

Sec. 1. 10 MRSA §9021, sub-§1-B  is enacted to read:

1-B Continuing education.   On or before June 1st of every year, an applicant for license renewal who is licensed as an installer in this State must provide evidence satisfactory to the board that in the preceding license period the applicant completed a program of 10 hours of continuing education as prescribed in the rules of the board. Continuing education courses approved by the board must be designed to maintain and enhance the knowledge and skills of licensees related to the installation of manufactured housing.

Notwithstanding this subsection, a person who has been licensed for less than one year is not required to complete continuing education in order to renew that person's license, and a person who has been licensed for one year but less than 2 years must complete 5 continuing education hours in order to renew that person's license. For the purposes of this subsection, "hour" means 50 minutes of instruction or participation in an appropriate course or program of continuing education. The board may consider a waiver of continuing education requirements or acceptance of partial fulfillment based on the board's review of a written request with supporting documentation of hardship.
