An Act To Improve Ballot Access for Gubernatorial Candidates
Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:
Sec. 1. 21-A MRSA §335, sub-§5, ¶A, as enacted by PL 1985, c. 161, §6, is amended to read:
A. For a candidate for Governor, at least 2,000 or 2% of the total number of members enrolled in the candidate's party according to the most recent tabulation by the Secretary of State, whichever is less, and not more than 3,000 voters;
SUMMARY
This bill provides that a candidate for Governor may satisfy the primary petition requirements by acquiring the signatures of 2% of the total number of members enrolled in the candidate's political party.
