An Act To Extend the Length of the School Day
Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:
Sec. 1. 20-A MRSA §4801, sub-§2-B is enacted to read:
2-B. Length of school day. Beginning in the 2013-2014 school year and for every school year thereafter, the length of an average instructional day must be at least 5 hours and 45 minutes. For purposes of this subsection, "instructional day" means a school day during which both students and teachers are present, either in a school or in another setting.
SUMMARY
This bill requires, beginning in the 2013-2014 school year, that a school instructional day, which is a day during which both students and teachers are present, must be at least 5 hours and 45 minutes in length.
