An Act To Set Uniform Standards for School Construction
Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:
Sec. 1. 20-A MRSA §15905, sub-§4-A is enacted to read:
4-A. School size; standard design plans; funding. The state board shall adopt rules pertaining to a school construction project for a new school that set out the design standards used for urban, suburban and rural schools. The state board shall annually review the design standards used in school construction plans for a school construction project for a new school and update them if necessary. The state board may not approve the allocation of state funds for a school construction project for a new school unless the new school construction plan that the school administrative unit submits in the application process meets the applicable design standards. Rules adopted pursuant to this subsection are major substantive rules as defined in Title 5, chapter 375, subchapter 2-A.
