This
bill requires the State to pay 75% of the costs of closing municipal
landfills that meet certain criteria.
It is assumed that there are three licensed municipal landfills likely
to be eligible to receive such funding.
Updated Department of Environmental Protection estimates put these
costs at $1,700,000. Typically, state
participation in costs of this nature have been paid from bond proceeds. Since no bond proceeds are available at
this time, subsequent legislation will be required to create a bond issue or
provide a General Fund appropriation to fund these costs. |
