This bill requires
that the principles of the "5-2-1-0 Goes to School" program be
incorporated into a statewide program in the public schools physical
education curriculum. |

The required local
activities in this bill may represent a State mandate pursuant to the
Constitution of Maine. Unless General
Fund appropriations are provided to fund at least 90% of the additional costs
or a Mandate Preamble is amended to the bill and two-thirds of the members of
each House vote to exempt this mandate from the funding requirement,
municipalities may not be required to implement these changes. |

The Learning
Systems program within the Department of Education has indicated that it will
require ongoing General Fund appropriations of $30,000 in fiscal year 2009-10
and $50,000 per year beginning in fiscal year 2010-11 for the costs
associated with incorporating the principles of the "5-2-1-1 Goes to
School" program into a statewide program in the public schools physical
education curriculum. The fiscal year
2009-10 cost includes curriculum alignment and review and development of
standards. The ongoing costs beginning
in fiscal year 2010-11 include curriculum development, professional
development and distribution of curriculum materials. |
