This bill requires that the principles of the "5-2-1-0 Goes to School" program be incorporated into a statewide program in the public schools physical education curriculum. School Significant statewide
The required local activities in this bill may represent a State mandate pursuant to the Constitution of Maine.  Unless General Fund appropriations are provided to fund at least 90% of the additional costs or a Mandate Preamble is amended to the bill and two-thirds of the members of each House vote to exempt this mandate from the funding requirement, municipalities may not be required to implement these changes.
Fiscal Detail and Notes
The Learning Systems program within the Department of Education has indicated that it will require ongoing General Fund appropriations of $30,000 in fiscal year 2009-10 and $50,000 per year beginning in fiscal year 2010-11 for the costs associated with incorporating the principles of the "5-2-1-1 Goes to School" program into a statewide program in the public schools physical education curriculum.  The fiscal year 2009-10 cost includes curriculum alignment and review and development of standards.  The ongoing costs beginning in fiscal year 2010-11 include curriculum development, professional development and distribution of curriculum materials.
