Fiscal Detail and Notes | ||||||
Allowing a student who is an active member or veteran of the military, regardless of the state of residence, to qualify for in-state tuition rates for first time enrollment at any campus of the University of Maine System, the Maine Community College System or the Maine Maritime Academy will result in a loss of tuition revenue to the higher education institutions. The impact can not be determined at this time, however, the University of Maine has indicated that, had this provision been in place in fiscal year 2008-09 the fiscal impact would have been approximately $65,000. The ability of the higher educational institutions to absorb this reduction in tuition revenue without increasing tuition rates or requiring additional General Fund appropriations can not be determined at this time. |
