Required Activity Unit Affected Costs
Requiring local school administrative units to have a school nurse collect body mass index data from students and report the data collected to the Department of Health and Human Services, Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention is a state mandate pursuant to the Constitution of Maine.  Unless General Fund appropriations are provided to fund at least 90% of the additional costs or a Mandate Preamble is amended to the bill and two-thirds of the members of each House vote to exempt this mandate from the funding requirement, the local school administrative units may not be required to implement these changes. Fiscal Detail and Notes
The Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention in the Department of Health and Human Services will incur additional costs estimated to be $29,201 in fiscal year 2009-10 and $12,295 in fiscal year 2010-11 to implement and administer the collection and analysis of student body mass index data reported by schools.  
The cost to local school administrative units is estimated to be $1,043,878 given the assumptions detailed below.  The actual cost to local school administrative units may be higher or lower depending on actual experience.
