The State Board of Licensure for Professional Engineers, affiliated with the Department of Professional and Financial Regulation will require additional ongoing Other Special Revenue Funds allocations of $80,000 per year beginning in fiscal year 2009-10 for the costs associated with holding hearings to investigate complaints regarding the practice of engineering without a license.  This fiscal note assumes that the Board will conduct three 4-day hearings per year and will incur expenses related to per diem and other expenses of the board members, advertising, rent, costs for a hearing officer and an investigator as well as other legal and administrative expenses.  The actual cost will be higher or lower depending on actual experience.
The State Board of Licensure for Professional Engineers has indicated that it will need to increase its licensing fees by $30 per biennial license to support the increased costs to the Board associated with this legislation.  As of the date of this preliminary fiscal impact statement, the Board has an unexpended cash balance of $305,055.
