The Secretary of State's budget includes sufficient funds to accommodate one ballot of average length for the general election in November. If the number or size of the referendum questions requires production and delivery of a second ballot, an additional appropriation of $107,250 may be required. | ||||||

If approved by the voters, this bill may result in savings to the Legislature depending on the resulting policy changes implemented by the Legislative Council. | ||||||
This legislation proposes a constitutional amendment that beginning with the general election held in 2014 the Legislative election would occur every four years. This process would result in cost savings to the Maine Clean Election Fund. If this legislation were to go forward, 2016 would be the first year savings would be realized, which are estimated at $4,200,000 in Other Special Revenue Funds. |
