An Act To Allow Noncitizen Residents To Vote in Municipal Elections
Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:
Sec. 1. 21-A MRSA §111, as amended by PL 2005, c. 387, §1, is further amended by adding at the end a new paragraph to read:
Notwithstanding subsection 1, a municipality may provide by ordinance for a person residing within its borders who is not a citizen of the United States to vote in a municipal election. The municipality shall maintain separate records of noncitizen residents who are registered to vote.
