An Act To Increase Funding for Higher Education
Sec. 1. 20-A MRSA §10009 is enacted to read:
§ 10009. State contribution to funding total operating costs
Notwithstanding any other provision of law, the State shall contribute 55% of the total operating costs of Maine Maritime Academy by fiscal year 2011-12.
Sec. 2. 20-A MRSA §10910 is enacted to read:
§ 10910. State contribution to funding total operating costs
Notwithstanding any other provision of law, the State shall contribute 55% of the total operating costs of the university by fiscal year 2011-12.
Sec. 3. 20-A MRSA §12723 is enacted to read:
§ 12723. State contribution to funding total operating costs
Notwithstanding any other provision of law, the State shall contribute 55% of the total operating costs of the system by fiscal year 2011-12.
Sec. 4. Appropriations and allocations. The following appropriations and allocations are made.

Initiative: Increases funding to the Maine Community College System in order for the percentage contributed by the State to be equal to 45% of the system's operating costs in fiscal year 2009-10 and 50% in fiscal year 2010-11.

SUMMARY
This bill requires the State to contribute 55% of the total operating costs of the State’s public higher educational institutions by fiscal year 2011-12 and provides funding to Maine Maritime Academy, the Maine Community College System and the University of Maine System in order for the percentage contributed by the State to be equal to 45% of the operating costs in fiscal year 2009-10 and 50% in fiscal year 2010-11.
