An Act To Allow Veterans and Active Duty Military Members To Qualify for In-state Tuition
Sec. 1. 20-A MRSA §10009 is enacted to read:
§ 10009. Veterans and active duty military
Regardless of the state of residence, an active member or veteran of the Armed Forces of the United States qualifies for in-state tuition rates for enrollment at any campus of the University of Maine System, the Maine Community College System or the Maine Maritime Academy. This section applies to a person who enrolls in the University of Maine System, the Maine Community College System or the Maine Maritime Academy for the first time after the effective date of this section, including an active member or veteran of the Armed Forces of the United States who transfers from a postsecondary institution in another state with a provision similar to this section.

This bill qualifies a student who is an active member or veteran of the Armed Forces of the United States, regardless of the state of residence, for in-state tuition rates for first-time enrollment at any campus of the University of Maine System, the Maine Community College System or the Maine Maritime Academy, including an enrollee who transfers from a postsecondary institution in another state with a similar provision.
