An Act To Clarify the Qualifications for the Position of State Archivist

The Secretary of State shall appoint a State Archivist subject to review by the joint standing committee of the Legislature having jurisdiction over state and local government matters and to confirmation by the Legislature. The State Archivist shall must be chosen without reference to party affiliation and solely on the ground of professional competence to perform the duties of that office. The State Archivist must be qualified by special training or experience in the field of history or archival work. The State Archivist shall hold holds office for a term of 6 years from the date of the appointment , unless removed for cause under the Civil Service Law, and until a successor has been appointed and qualified. The Governor shall fix compensation of for the State Archivist shall be fixed by the Governor within salary range 88.
