Resolve, Establishing Goals and Principles for Fisheries Management for the Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife
Sec. 1. Implementation of fisheries management and research. Resolved: That, in implementing the Maine Revised Statutes, Title 12, chapter 925, subchapter 2, the Commissioner of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife shall conduct fisheries management and research initiatives in a manner designed to enhance recreational fishing throughout the State by:
1. Increasing fishing license sales;
2. Increasing the economic contribution provided to the State by recreational fishing;
3. Recognizing and protecting the quality of fishing experiences in the State;
4. Increasing the accessibility of recreational fishing;
5. Increasing opportunities for recreational fishing;
6. Enhancing the populations of large fish;
7. Increasing the economic value of fish and of fishing as an industry;
8. Assigning native and wild fisheries the highest priority for sustainable management;
9. Securing access to all lakes, ponds, rivers and streams in the State; and
10. Establishing accountability for departmental decisions, policies and fisheries managers.
SUMMARY
This resolve requires the Commissioner of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife to conduct fisheries management and research initiatives in a manner designed to enhance recreational fishing throughout the State.
