An Act To Stabilize School Heating Costs

Sec. 1. 20-A MRSA §15008  is enacted to read:

§ 15008.  Heating oil

The commissioner shall develop and administer a program for the bulk purchase of heating oil for every school facility within a school administrative unit that uses heating oil. A school administrative unit that uses heating oil shall pay to the department an amount equal to the unit’s consumption of oil purchased under this section and a pro rata share of the expenses by the commissioner to administer this section.

This bill requires the Commissioner of Education to develop and administer a program for the bulk purchase of heating oil for every school facility that uses heating oil, with each participating school administrative unit paying for the unit’s consumption of oil and a pro rata share of the expenses to administer the program.
