SUMMARY
This amendment requires a school administrative unit to send a notice to a parent or guardian of a student in that school administrative unit no later than 30 days before that school administrative unit collects body mass index data from students informing that parent or guardian that body mass index data will be collected from the parent or guardian's child unless that parent or guardian objects. The amendment allows a parent or guardian to object for any reason. The bill limits objections to religious or philosophical grounds.
This amendment provides that body mass index data collected by school administrative units are confidential except that data may be reported in the aggregate only to the Department of Health and Human Services, Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention. Data reported in this manner may not identify an individual student.
