An Act To Require Telephone Directories To Include Cellular Telephone Numbers for Businesses
Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:
Sec. 1. 35-A MRSA §7501, sub-§1, as enacted by PL 1987, c. 141, Pt. A, §6, is amended to read:
1. Customer information included in directory. When a telephone utility publishes a directory of names, addresses and telephone numbers for distribution to its customers or others, it shall, at the request of a customer, include in the directory:
A. The full name of the customer;
B. The first name of one other person bearing the customer's last name;
C. The customer's address; and
D. The customer's telephone number . ; and
E. When the customer is a business entity, the customer’s cellular telephone number.
For purposes of this subsection, “business entity” means a corporation, association, partnership, limited liability company, limited liability partnership or other legal entity, and “cellular telephone” means a wireless telephone device that is used to access mobile telecommunications services.
SUMMARY
This bill requires telephone directories published by telephone utilities to include cellular telephone numbers for businesses at the request of a customer.
