An Act To Exempt a Door Prize Awarded at a Fishing Tournament from Being Classified as a Game of Chance
Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:
Sec. 1. 17 MRSA §331, sub-§3, as enacted by PL 1975, c. 424, §1, is amended to read:
3. Door prizes. Distribution of tickets to any event upon which appear details concerning any prize to be given away as a result of a drawing is to be considered a game of chance within the meaning of this chapter, except that such distribution of tickets containing only the words "Door Prize," without further description, shall be are excluded from the provisions of this chapter, provided that as long as no promotional materials or presentations, written or oral, shall further describe the door prize. Distribution of tickets to a fishing tournament permitted under Title 12, section 12504, 12504-A or 12505 upon which appear details concerning a prize to be given away as a result of a drawing is not a game of chance within the meaning of this chapter.

This bill provides that a door prize offered by an organization conducting a fishing tournament permitted by the Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife is not a game of chance for purposes of licensing games of chance pursuant to the Maine Revised Statutes, Title 17, chapter 14.
