Joint Order, To Amend the Joint Rules To Limit the Number of Bills Introduced
ORDERED, the Senate concurring, that the Joint Rules be amended by adding Joint Rule 201-A to read:
Rule 201-A. Limit on bills filed.
Beginning with the 125th Legislature, the following limits are imposed on the filing of bills.
1. Members elected to their first terms. Members elected to their first terms in the House of Representatives may file no more than 2 bills in the First Regular Session and no more than one bill in the Second Regular Session. Members elected to their first terms in the Senate may file no more than 3 bills in the First Regular Session and no more than 2 bills in the Second Regular Session.
2. Members elected to their 2nd terms. Members elected to their 2nd terms in the House of Representatives may file no more than 4 bills in the First Regular Session and no more than 2 bills in the Second Regular Session. Members elected to their 2nd terms in the Senate may file no more than 6 bills in the First Regular Session and no more than 3 bills in the Second Regular Session.
3. Members elected to their 3rd terms. Members elected to their 3rd terms in the House of Representatives may file no more than 6 bills in the First Regular Session and no more than 2 bills in the Second Regular Session. Members elected to their 3rd terms in the Senate may file no more than 8 bills in the First Regular Session and no more than 3 bills in the Second Regular Session.
4. Members elected to their 4th terms. Members elected to their 4th terms in the House of Representatives may file no more than 8 bills in the First Regular Session and no more than 3 bills in the Second Regular Session. Members elected to their 4th terms in the Senate may file an unlimited number of bills in the First Regular Session and no more than 3 bills in the Second Regular Session.
