This legislation
provides the court with alternatives to address unpaid fines. The bill allows community service in lieu
of payment of fines, discharge of fines if uncollectible due to death or
disability and submission of unpaid fines to collection agencies. Information provided by the Judicial Branch
indicates community service is currently available as a sentencing
option. As it may be difficult to get
an offender who would risk jail by not paying a fine to the court to make
payment because a collection agency is involved, it is assumed that this
legislation will result in a minor increase in revenue to the General Fund. |
