If this constitutional amendment is approved by the voters, the size of the Legislature will be reduced by 19 Representatives and 2 Senators. Reducing the size of the Legislature will result in cost savings to the Legislative budget in the Personal Services and All Other line categories beginning in fiscal year 2014-15. The projected future savings are estimated to be $861,242 in fiscal year 2014-15, $750,461 in fiscal year 2015-16 and $946,497 in fiscal year 2016-17. The Legislature will also require a General Fund appropriation in fiscal year 2013-14 to conduct the redistricting. Based upon the amount of funds appropriated and spent for this purpose in fiscal year 2002-03, the cost in fiscal year 2013-14 is estimated to be $525,000. |
