This legislation
proposes to double the fines for a number of traffic violations and OUI
offenses and dedicate half of the fine to a newly created School Zone Safety
Fund to be administered by the Department of Transportation. The Judicial Department indicates that
there is no indicator for infractions or offenses that are currently
committed in school zones. Therefore,
the amount of revenue received as a result of this new surcharge can not be
determined at this time. The costs of
entering new infractions or offenses into the Violations Bureau and the
Judicial Department's computer systems will not require additional funding at
this time. |
