Fiscal Detail and Notes
If the constitutional amendment is approved by the voters, the size of the Legislature will be reduced by 2 Senators and 52 Representatives, allowing a reduction of the Personal Services and All Other line categories of the Legislative budget by $2,102,279 in fiscal year 2008-09, $1,846,318 in fiscal year 2009-10 and $2,312,103 in fiscal year 2010-11. These savings will be reduced by the cost in fiscal year 2007-08 to conduct redistricting. Based on the amount spent for this purpose in fiscal year 2002-03, the cost in 2007-08 is estimated to be $450,000.
The Secretary of State's budget includes sufficient funds to accommodate one ballot of average length for the general election in November. If the number or size of the referendum questions increases the ballot length, an additional appropriation of $8,000 or more may be required. |
