This legislation
requires a review by the Joint Standing Committee on Criminal Justice and
Public Safety. It does not contain a
timeframe in which this review is to be conducted. If the review takes place during the period
of time that the Legislature is in session, there will not be a fiscal impact
to the Legislature. If it is the
intent that the Committee conducts this review during the interim between
legislative sessions, there may be an additional cost to the Legislature that
would depend on the number of meetings conducted. The estimated cost for one meeting is
$1,625. Also, the Legislature's
proposed budget includes $30,000 in fiscal year 2007-08 for legislative
studies. Whether this review could be
funded by the Legislative budget will depend on the number of studies
authorized by the Legislative Council and the Legislature. |
