Correctional and Judicial Impact Statements
This legislation adds 10 years onto certain assault related sentences and will potentially add $380,184 for each person sentenced to the state correctional system.  This estimate is based on an average cost per day of $104.16 or $38,018 per year for 10 years.  These new costs occur beyond the scope of the time horizon of this fiscal note and are not reflected in the amounts shown above.  This legislation also eliminates certain Class E crimes.
Fiscal Detail and Notes
Eliminating most of the circumstances in which a concealed weapons permit will be necessary will reduce General Fund permit fees collected by the Department of Public Safety by an estimated $78,750 in fiscal year 2007-08 and by $105,000 in each fiscal year thereafter and also reduce Other Special Revenue Funds permit fees by an estimated $71,250 in fiscal year 2007-08 and by $95,000 in each fiscal year thereafter.  These changes will also eliminate two Office Associate II positions in the Licensing and Enforcement program within the Department of Public Safety, saving $114,117 and $118,476 in Other Special Revenue Funds in fiscal years 2007-08 and 2008-09, respectively.
