Fiscal Detail and Notes
	This legislation shifts the cost of inmates serving between six and nine months from county responsibility to state responsibility.  Since the adult population in the state correctional system exceeds capacity, the Department of Corrections will have to contract with the county jails to house these prisoners.  This requirement will require General Fund appropriations of $7,035,946 in fiscal year 2007-08, $10,629,456 in fiscal year 2008-09, $12,043,756 in fiscal year 2009-10 and $13,646,270 in fiscal year 2010-11.
